Maharashtra: The incident of chemical leakage from a tanker near Charoti Naka of Dahanu on Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway on Monday created chaos in the area. The tanker was carrying sodium chloride, which leaked due to a technical fault. The gas-like smell spreading with the wind engulfed the entire area.
According to media reports, due to gas leak, many local residents and travelers passing through the highway had difficulty breathing. Many people complained of itching and burning sensation on the skin. When the situation started deteriorating rapidly, people started running away from the affected area. The smell was so strong that the people nearby got scared.
As soon as the Palghar district administration received the information, the officials took immediate steps. The police team reached the spot and started controlling the traffic so that there was no further danger.
Two fire brigade vehicles were deployed and work was started quickly to stop the leak. Fire fighters tried to control the situation by spraying water on the tanker. He also ensured that the chemical did not spread further.
In view of security, the service road from Gujarat to Mumbai has been temporarily closed. Traffic is moving on the main highway, but at a very slow pace. The administration has advised passengers to keep their vehicle windows closed while passing through that area and not to step out unnecessarily.
The district administration has appealed to the residents of Charoti and surrounding areas to remain alert. Be sure to wear a mask while leaving the house. If you feel difficulty in breathing, itching or any discomfort, seek immediate medical help at the nearest primary health center.
Officials are constantly monitoring the situation so that the matter does not escalate further. No major danger has been reported yet, but precautions are being taken.
