New Delhi, 02 May 2026: New Zealand Cricket has announced that all-rounder Mitchell Santner will be out of action for at least a month due to a grade-three shoulder injury. New Zealand’s limited overs captain Mitchell Santner suffered a shoulder injury during the match against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026.
This all-rounder player of Mumbai Indians was then seen applying ice on his shoulder. Mumbai Indians included Shardul Thakur in the team as a concussion substitute in place of Centenary. This decision caused a lot of controversy, because a player can be included in the team only on the basis of concussion if he has suffered a head injury. Centenary had a shoulder injury but still Shardul was included as a substitute.
New Zealand has given an update on Mitchell Santner’s injury through their official account. The board wrote, “Blackcaps all-rounder and white-ball captain Mitchell Santner will be out of the team for at least a month after scans revealed a grade-three shoulder injury. The injury means he will miss the one-off Test against Ireland and the first Test against England. A decision on his availability for the second and third Tests will be taken at a later date.”
With Santner out for the entire season due to a shoulder injury, Mumbai has announced his replacement. Experienced South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has joined MI for the rest of the season. Maharaj has joined Mumbai for ₹7.5 million. This Proteas player has not played a single match yet.
