Many people checked their phones in panic after seeing this, while some thought it was a technical glitch or a cyber scam.

Actually this alert is an official test conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority of the Government of India. Its purpose is to test the new wireless emergency alert system across the country, which is being prepared to provide immediate information to people in case of emergency in future.

In the message sent by the Government Telecommunication Department, it has been clarified that India has started cell broadcast service based on indigenous technology. Through this system, citizens will be given immediate warning in case of disaster. The message also stated that this is only a test alert and there is no need to take any action upon receiving it.

This Cell Broadcasting System is an advanced technology for disaster management, which will be used in case of natural disasters like flood, earthquake, tsunami, cyclone as well as gas leakage, chemical accident and other emergencies. Through this, alerts can be sent simultaneously to all the mobile phones present in the affected areas.

The specialty of this technology is that it does not depend on any mobile number, but delivers messages to all smartphones on the basis of tower coverage. This will make it possible to share information rapidly and widely in case of emergency.

The government believes that mobile phones are the most effective communication medium today, hence adopting this system will further strengthen disaster management. However, at present the alerts being sent are only for testing, so people do not need to panic.

According to official information, this system will be implemented across the country in future so that people can be protected in time in case of any emergency.
