Bollywood actress Ananya Panday , who was recently in the news after her classical dance sequences from film ' Chand Mera Dil ' went viral on social media. The actress faced massive trolling for her dance sequence. Many social media users criticised the actress, accusing her of disrespecting the classical dance form. Reacting to the controversy, TV actress Sudha Chandran blamed the makers and criticised them for treating Bharatanatyam in a disrespectful manner.



The veteran actress recently shared her views on the controversy and shared, "Main purist hoon, mujhe aisa lagta hai ki jo cheezein jaisi bani hain, unhe chhedo mat. In the name of modernity and trying to experiment and do something new, don’t make it a caricature. Involvement ek alag baat hoti hai. Jo humse pehle Bharatanatyam dancers the, woh purists the. Humne use thoda modify kiya, humne use change karne ki koshish nahi ki ki woh vahiyat dikhe. Nahi, you can’t do that. See, some art forms are traditional. Har art form ka ek protocol hota hai, usse logon ke sentiments jude hote hain."



She further shared, "I won’t blame Ananya Panday because she was taught that; she is not a dancer. The choreographers should take care of it."



For the uninitiated, a few weeks ago, a clip from Chand Mera Dil went viral on social media where Ananya Panday's character Chandni performs a Bharatanatyam-fusion dance on stage at a college event. The scene shows Lakshya's character watching Ananya's character with admiration as she dances. After the clip surfaced online, it received a mixed response and several netizens criticised the dance performance.



A user wrote on X, "Can’t keep defending Ananya Panday at this point… tf was that." Another fan responded to the viral clip and wrote, “Bharatanatyam evolved in 200 BCE and ended with Ananya Panday in 2026." Several users online further criticised the performance, with some calling the dance moves "robotic."



Directed by Vivek Soni of Meenakshi Sundareshwar fame, Chand Mera Dil features Lakshya and Ananya Panday in the lead roles of Aarav and Chandni. The romantic drama tells the story of their love journey and is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Somen Mishra and Marijke Desouza under Dharma Productions. The film hit theatres on May 22, 2026.
