Lucknow/Jaunpur: Young javelin thrower Rohit Yadav from Adari Dabhiya village of Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh has created a new history in Indian athletics. He performed brilliantly in the 65th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship and won the gold medal by throwing 87.05 meters javelin. With this performance, he set a new record, leaving behind Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and also qualified for the Asian Games to be held in Nagoya, Japan in the year 2026.
Rohit Yadav made an excellent throw of 87.05 meters in the last attempt of the competition held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. With this performance he also broke the meet record of the year 2022. Apart from this, he became India’s number-1 javelin thrower in the current season.
Rohit attributed his success to continuous practice, coaching and family support. He told that during practice he was consistently throwing the javelin from 86 to 87 meters and was successful in repeating the same performance in the competition.
As soon as the news of Rohit’s historic victory reached his native village Adari Dabhiya, a wave of happiness spread across the area. The villagers celebrated the achievement by distributing sweets, bursting crackers and congratulating each other.
Former marathon runner and Rohit’s father Sabhajit Yadav said that his son’s hard work and dedication has brought glory not only to the family but also to the entire district and state.
Thanks to Rohit Yadav’s gold medal Uttar Pradesh also won the trophy in the men’s team championship with 71 points.
After the brilliant performance of 25-year-old Rohit Yadav, he has become the country’s number-1 and second best javelin thrower in the world. According to available information, Sri Lanka’s Tharanga Pathirage is at first place in the world rankings, while Neeraj Chopra is at fourth place with 85.69 metres. Rohit’s throw of 87.05 meters has proved to give him a new identity at the global level.
