Chandigarh, July 202026 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 2015 Behbal Kalan police firing case and underwent nearly two hours of questioning.
Speaking to reporters after his appearance, Badal said he had answered all the questions posed by the investigating team and alleged that the SIT had repeatedly asked the same questions that had already been recorded during his previous appearances.
Claiming that this was the fourth time he had been summoned in connection with the case, Badal said all his earlier statements had been videographed and duly documented. He alleged that the latest round of questioning was politically motivated.
“The SIT is asking the same questions again and again. This is the fourth time I have been called. All questions and my answers have already been recorded on camera and documented in the previous SIT records,” he said.
Badal further alleged that the questions asked during the latest interrogation appeared to have been framed to serve the political interests of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
“I have always responded promptly whenever summoned because I want those responsible for the incident to be brought to justice. However, the intention of the AAP government is not to ensure justice but to politicize the issue,” he alleged.
Thousands of Shiromani Akali Dal workers gathered near the Punjab Police Officers Institute (PPOI) to express solidarity with the former Deputy Chief Minister despite heavy rain. Party workers raised slogans in support of Badal and criticized the state government.
Addressing the gathering, Badal thanked the party workers for turning out in large numbers and said their presence sent a strong message to the government.
Describing the latest summons as a “drama”, Badal alleged that the move was intended to divert public attention from issues involving the Punjab government. He further claimed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was targeting the Shiromani Akali Dal out of political fear and asserted that his party would continue to oppose and expose the state government.
Badal also made a series of allegations against the Chief Minister and said the Shiromani Akali Dal would not be intimidated by what it described as politically motivated actions. He asserted that the party would continue to hold the government accountable through democratic means.
