Strict action is being planned against ration cardholders in Bihar who have not collected their rations for an extended period. Consequently, cards that have not been used to collect PDS rations for six months could be temporarily blocked starting October 1, 2026.

If you hold a Bihar ration card and haven't collected rations from a Public Distribution System (PDS) shop for a long time, this news is important for you. The government is identifying ration cards that have remained unused for a prolonged period. Generally, cards belonging to holders who haven't collected rations in the last six months may face temporary blocking from October 1, 2026.

The government classifies such cardholders as "silent cardholders." Following a meeting of the Union Department of Food and Public Distribution in Delhi, the state government has decided to intensify scrutiny and action regarding such cards.

Until when can you collect your rations?

If you haven't collected rations from a PDS shop for several months, there is still an opportunity to keep your card active. You should try to collect rations from your nearest PDS dealer by September 21, 2026, as collecting rations within the stipulated timeframe will allow you to keep the card active. However, if you fail to collect rations by September 21, your card could be temporarily blocked starting October 1, 2026.

Which ration cards could face action?

Essentially, through this verification process, the government aims to identify and separate ration cards that are either fake or belong to individuals who haven't collected rations from PDS shops for a long time. If a card is found to be fake or the beneficiary is deemed ineligible during the verification, further action may be taken against them.

Opportunity for e-KYC available even after October 1st

If a ration card is temporarily blocked starting October 1, 2026, it does not mean it will be permanently cancelled. Such individuals may be given an opportunity to prove their eligibility and complete the e-KYC process.

A special drive will be conducted from October 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027. During this campaign, field verification of cardholders may be carried out. If found eligible during this verification, the blocked cards will be reactivated.

If you have not collected rations from a PDS shop in the last six months, do not wait for the deadline. Contact your nearest PDS dealer immediately and collect your rations in time.
