Kota: A doctor couple and their two children were killed when a speeding truck collided head-on with their car on the Kawai-Atru state highway under the Kawai police station area in Baran district Tuesday.




The victims were identified as Dr Suresh Gajraj (38), currently serving as principal medical officer in Mandal in Bhilwara district, his wife Dr Shalini Maurya (35), their 12-year-old son Swapnil and seven-year-old daughter Nilisha .




The family, originally from Surajgarh in Jhunjhunu district, was residing in Jaipur and was on its way to Chhabra when the accident occurred.




Circle inspector Rajpal Singh of Kawai police station said the collision took place around 11am. All four occupants of the car were killed on the spot, he said.




“The impact was so severe that the car was reduced to a mangled heap of metal,” Singh said.




Police said the truck driver fled from the spot immediately after the accident. Locals rushed to the site, informed police and tried to pull out the occupants trapped inside the crushed vehicle.




A police team from Kawai police station reached the spot, cleared the wreckage and shifted the bodies to the mortuary at Atru Sub-District Hospital. Doctors there formally declared all four family members dead on arrival.




Police said the family members of the deceased had been informed and the post-mortem would be conducted after their arrival.




An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the accident. Police have also started a search for the absconding truck driver .
