Business Desk- FASTag New Rules 2026: Changes in the rules of FASTag have come into effect for the disabled from October 2, 2026 i.e. Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. The Central Government has linked the validity of FASTag, which provides toll exemption facility to people falling under the Person with Disability i.e. PwD category, to the percentage of disability. Now eligible people will not have to renew FASTag every year.
Under the new system, toll exempt FASTag will be issued to vehicles designed for disabled people and vehicles registered in the name of eligible disabled people. Its validity will now be decided on the basis of percentage of disability.
Till now, FASTag issued for toll exemption had to be renewed every year. In the new rule, the validity of FASTag for people with 40% to 70% disability will be 3 years, while for people with 70% to 100% disability, this period has been kept at 5 years.
For people whose percentage of disability is 40% to 70%, the validity of toll exempted FASTag will be 3 years. At the same time, the validity of FASTag for people with 70% to 100% disability will be 5 years.
After completion of the prescribed period, eligible persons will be able to renew FASTag as per the rules. With this, they will not have to go through the renewal process every year.
To avail the benefit of the new period, disabled people will have to provide necessary documents. These include documents like Unique Disability ID (UDID), Disability Certificate and Aadhar Card.
The validity of FASTag and the percentage of disability for relaxation will be validated on the basis of information recorded in the relevant documents. That means, the validity of 3 years or 5 years will be decided on the basis of the percentage of disability recorded in the documents.
The aim of the new system is to make the process of toll exemption easier for disabled people. Earlier there was a need to renew FASTag every year. Now, by providing longer validity on the basis of percentage of disability, the hassle of frequent renewals will be reduced and eligible people will be able to avail the facility of toll exemption for a longer period.
