The Indian compound archery team continues to perform brilliantly in the Asian Games 2026 being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The compound archery team has strengthened India's position in the medal tally by winning 2 gold medals in a short span of time. The Indian women's team defended its gold medal by defeating China in the final. Now the mixed team has won the gold. Also achieved 2028 Olympic quota.
The mixed compound archery pair of Chikita Taniparthy and Sahil Jadhav did this feat by defeating South Korea in a thrilling shoot-off. Chikita and Sahil displayed great composure and captured the gold by defeating South Korea's Jungeun Park and Choi Eun Gyu 158-157 after a shoot-off in a thrilling final. The Indian mixed team entered the gold medal match by defeating Thailand 156-155 in the semi-finals.
Earlier, the Indian women's compound archery team successfully defended its title at the Asiad by defeating China 238-234 with a score equaling the world record. The Indian team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikita and Prithika Pradeep maintained their dominance in the final and equaled South Korea's world record. South Korea had made this score in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
The Chinese team comprising Vunier, Yue Wang and Fangyao Wei had to settle for silver. The Indian trio had entered the final by defeating South Korea 234-233 in the semi-finals. South Korea's team of Park Jungeun, Park Yerin and Kang Yeonseo defeated Taiwan and won bronze. In the final, the Indian trio made a great start and continuously scored perfect 10s to win the first leg 60-58.
The defending champion Indian team continued its dominance and won the second leg by 60-58 and increased its lead. After this, India was leading by 178-176 before the final stage. Under pressure, China scored nine points twice, while India completed another brilliant phase with six perfect-10s. In this way, the Indian team not only retained its title but also equaled the world record.
