Mohali : Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Wednesday accused the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led AAP govt of being “neck-deep in corruption” and said its “pot of corruption has finally overflowed”.
He claimed the AAP govt’s days in power were numbered.
Dhillon led a BJP protest in Mohali against the state govt over alleged corruption and misuse of public money. BJP workers smashed a symbolic pot representing corruption and burnt an effigy of the AAP govt while raising slogans against the Mann govt. They also staged a symbolic “last rites” protest and set the effigy on fire.
Addressing party workers, Dhillon said the AAP govt had spent the last four-and-a-half years projecting itself as honest and corruption-free, but allegations of corruption were now surfacing one after another.
“People of Punjab are watching everything. They will give this govt an answer at the right time,” he said.
Referring to ongoing corruption-related proceedings, Dhillon alleged that the Enforcement Directorate had repeatedly written to the Punjab Police seeking action in certain cases, but the state govt failed to conduct a proper investigation. He said the matter subsequently reached the Punjab and Haryana high court , which directed a CBI probe into the allegations.
Dhillon accused govt of becoming “rattled” as the investigation progressed. “If the AAP govt has done nothing wrong, it should face the investigation and prove its transparency before the people of Punjab,” he said.
The Punjab BJP chief further alleged that people were fed up with govt’s “false promises” and corruption and would soon vote it out of power.
The protest was attended by BJP state vice-president Ranjit Singh Gill, district president Sanjeev Vishisht, Anuj Khosla, Gurdarshan Singh Saini, N K Verma, Sanjeev Khanna and Sukhwinder Singh Goldy, besides a large number of party functionaries and workers.
