Making non-player characters (NPCs), also called pedestrians or peds, fight each other can turn Grand Theft Auto V into a lively sandbox. You can start a street brawl without installing anything, or use PC mods for more control over who fights and how the battle unfolds.

Method 1: Start a Fight Without Mods

The simplest method works in standard single-player gameplay. It relies on getting an angry pedestrian to hit someone else.

  1. Find a busy public area, such as Vespucci Beach, Del Perro Pier, or a crowded sidewalk in Los Santos.

  2. Approach a pedestrian and throw one punch.

  3. When the pedestrian starts chasing you, move toward another person standing nearby.

  4. Circle around the second pedestrian and keep enough distance that the angry person follows you closely.

  5. Try to position the pursuer so their punches connect with the other pedestrian instead of you.

If the second pedestrian gets hit, they may fight back, starting a brawl between the two characters. If the attacker keeps targeting you, lead them toward another group or try a different location.

Choose a Good Location

Crowded areas give you more chances to make the trick work. Vespucci Beach and Del Perro Pier often have pedestrians close together, while busy shopping streets can also be useful. Avoid roads with fast traffic, since NPCs may run into the street and interrupt the fight.

The game’s artificial intelligence decides how each character reacts.

Method 2: Use Mods on PC

For planned battles, PC players can use mods that change pedestrian behavior or spawn characters for combat. One option is a ScriptHookVDotNet script such as SimpleGangWar, which can help set up opposing groups. Other scripts can make nearby pedestrians join fights or react more aggressively.

Many scripts require ScriptHookV, ScriptHookVDotNet, and a folder named scripts in the game directory. Follow the instructions supplied with the specific mod; files and controls vary.

A typical installation process is:

  • Back up your game files and saves.

  • Install the required script tools from their trusted project pages.

  • Place the mod files in the exact folders specified by its author.

  • Launch Story Mode and test the mod in a quiet area.

  • Read the mod’s instructions for its activation key or settings.

If the game crashes or characters behave strangely, disable the new files and check whether the mod supports your current build.

Can You Do This on PlayStation or Xbox?

The no-mod punch-and-lead trick is the most practical option on PlayStation and Xbox. PC mods generally depend on external files and script tools, so they are not a standard feature on consoles.

Keep these differences in mind:

  • Console: Use the in-game method and experiment with crowded locations.

  • PC: Try the in-game method first, then consider a compatible single-player mod for more control.

  • GTA Online: Avoid script mods. Keep mod experiments in Story Mode, because unsupported modifications can cause problems and may risk account penalties.

Troubleshooting Common Problems

If the NPC refuses to fight, make sure the first punch actually made them hostile. Move closer to the second pedestrian and try guiding the attacker around them.

With mods, check that every required dependency is installed and that files are not buried inside an extra nested folder.

Keep in mind that pedestrians may flee, call the police, or stop fighting after a short time. The game does not provide a dedicated menu for assigning rival teams in the standard console version.
