We’re entering that scary phase of the season where each team’s trajectory, disappointing performances, and costly late-game decisions will be intensely scrutinized, and a scapegoat - pardon our language - will be fired.

After five games of the 2026 campaign, intense scrutiny currently falls on Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn . According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, these two coaches will face immense pressure heading into Week 6. Why? Let’s discover.

Nick Sirianni faces Philadelphia Eagles coaching pressure Nick Sirianni has been with the Philadelphia Eagles since 2021. He brought commendable success to the Jalen Hurts-led team. A Super Bowl victory and three division titles. But that may clearly not be enough for the front office and players.

The recent 19-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London has flamed the concerns. Rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon stopped the clock for Jacksonville by stepping out of bounds for a catch.

With a lead in the bag, Sirianni allowed a returnable kickoff rather than sending the ball into the end zone. The Jaguars quickly capitalized on that and scored a game-winning field goal.

Sirianni took full responsibility for that crucial loss. But accountability only further fueled fans’ frustration.

Right now, his team is 2-3. Another loss, and the score’s worse at 2-4. Another win, and the score’s still dull at 3-3.

Also, Sirianni’s lack of clear ownership over any particular operation piece makes him more likely to invite blame for what goes wrong for the team than what goes right, as per ESPN’s Bill Barnwell.

Injuries too have piled up in Philadelphia. With major stars like Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, and multiple offensive linemen, and midseason departures of Cam Jurgens and Lane Johnson.

To add to the misery list, Sirianni will have to play Week 6 without his star quarterback, Jalen Hurts .

Hurts is out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers because of a superficial blood clot in his calf, which he suffered during the Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

How Sirianni overcomes a 2-3 record will be closely watched.

Dan Quinn under fire after Commanders collapse Throwing headset on the gridiron after a crucial Week 5 tie makes all sense. Poor clock management after a failed attempt at a potentially game-winning field goal before time expired.

A late sack also contributed to the disappointing 27-27 tie with the New York Giants. All these shortcomings will be blamed on head coach Dan Quinn. The coach took responsibility for the Week 5 tie.

He was also blamed for leaving Jayden Daniels in the game after he suffered an elbow injury in Week 4 - back when Washington was trailing by 31 points in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Anyhow, there are other Washington Commanders’ deteriorating problems too - defensive struggles and quarterback Jayden Daniels’ yearly injury concerns.

Now the Commanders stand at 1 win, 3 losses, and 1 tie. From here on, their record could be 2-3-1 or 1-4-1.

Either way, Dan Quinn must look for a way to stabilize his Washington. He’s placed on the hot seat ahead of Week 6. Particularly because in the past 17 games, Quinn’s team is 3-13-1.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris did not fire Quinn after his Week 5 loss. But for now, there’s a scratch on Quinn’s resume. Some people Fowler spoke to believe Quinn may turn things around with time, but don’t know how much, to what extent.
