Prayagraj. Today is an important day for renowned Samajwadi Party leader and former senior UP minister Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam. Allahabad High Court can give its verdict today in two PAN card cases. Azam and his son Abdullah had appealed in the Allahabad High Court to stay their conviction, suspend the sentence and release them on interim bail in two PAN card cases. Justice Samit Gopal had reserved the verdict on October 15 after hearing the case. In November last year, the MP-MLA court of Rampur had convicted Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 each. After this an appeal was made in the sessions court. Where Azam Khan's sentence was reduced to 10 years and fine to Rs 5 lakh. Whereas, instead of increasing Abdullah's imprisonment, the fine was increased to Rs 3.5 lakh.

During the hearing in Allahabad High Court, Congress Rajya Sabha MP and senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, senior lawyers NI Jafri and Shashwat Anand appeared on behalf of Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam. At the same time, lawyer Sharad Sharma had argued on behalf of BJP MLA Akash Saxena who complained in this matter. Vijay Vikram Singh was the lawyer on behalf of another Nawab Kazim Ali Khan alias Naved Mian. Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam argued in the Allahabad High Court that the punishment given by the trial and sessions court in the two PAN card cases was not in accordance with the established principles of law. In such a situation, they should get relief till the disposal of the final appeal.

At the same time, UP government's Additional Advocate General Anup Trivedi and Additional Government Advocate Paritosh Malviya opposed the petitions of Azam and Abdullah saying that this is a case of planned fraud. The UP government even appealed to the Allahabad High Court that Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam should be given life imprisonment. Allahabad High Court is hearing this appeal separately and the next hearing may be held in November. In the year 2019, Akash Saxena had given a complaint in the Civil Lines police station of Rampur. At the same time, in the year 2017, Nawab Kazim Ali Khan alias Naved Mian had complained. The complaint alleged that Abdullah Azam holds two PAN cards with different dates of birth. In one of which he was said to be born on 1 January 1993 and in the other on 30 September 1990. The complaint also said that Abdullah Azam used these PAN cards to contest elections and obtain other government documents. If there is no relief from the High Court, then the political careers of Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam may get caught in another whirlpool.
