After resigning from the National Conference (NC), former Lok Sabha MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has launched a fresh offensive against the BJP and the leadership of his former party.

He alleged that the National Conference leadership had “shamelessly surrendered” before the BJP and asserted that he would continue to oppose any attempts to portray the prevailing political situation as normal.

Ruhullah made it clear that he would not stop challenging the BJP’s policies and its approach towards Jammu and Kashmir under any circumstances.

He said his differences with the NC stemmed from what he described as the party’s capitulation to the BJP. He maintained that he would never accept this alleged surrender as a normal political development and reiterated that his opposition would continue, regardless of how many BJP leaders came forward to defend the existing political arrangement.

Ruhullah hits out at Ram Madhav’s statement.

Ruhullah also reacted sharply to BJP leader Ram Madhav’s statement claiming that his November 3 rally in Budgam had received the blessings of BJP supporters. Responding to the claim, the former MP said he did not even know Ram Madhav and had no connection with him.

He also questioned the National Conference leadership, suggesting that it should be asked to clarify Madhav’s remarks. He hinted that NC leaders might have spoken to the BJP leader themselves and could, therefore, have more information about the matter.

Ruhullah reiterated that he would continue to oppose the BJP’s policies towards Jammu and Kashmir, its aggressive approach and what he described as its treatment of the region. He maintained that statements or interventions by BJP leaders would not alter his position. According to him, any attempt to portray the prevailing political situation as normal would continue to face his opposition.

As reported earlier, Ruhullah announced his resignation from the National Conference as well as his decision to relinquish the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat during a public rally in Budgam on November 3. He had been associated with the party for nearly 24 years and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Srinagar on an NC ticket in the 2024 general elections.

He accused the party’s top leadership, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, of reneging on electoral promises, particularly the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. The National Conference, meanwhile, criticised Ruhullah following his resignation, alleging that he had turned against the party after benefiting from the political platform it had provided him.

During his visit to Jammu on November 3, Ram Madhav described the National Conference as a divided party, while denying any BJP role in its internal affairs. His remarks have added another dimension to the growing political controversy surrounding Ruhullah’s departure from the party.

On his future political course, Ruhullah has indicated that his focus will be on building a broad-based movement to restore the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. His statement suggests that he intends to remain actively involved in the region’s political affairs despite his separation from the National Conference.
